Craighall Castle, which has been the family home of the Rattrays of Craighall-Rattray since 1533, is set amidst stunning scenery at one of the principal gateways to the highlands. The view of the gorge and River Ericht from the balcony that rings the drawing room is not just dramatic… it's unbelievable. This is the home of Lachie and Nicky Rattray and their three children, Thomas 15, Hewie 12 and Flora, who is 9. They are the 18th generation of the family to live here.

The Castle and Estate has a long history that is strongly linked with the family that still lives in the castle.

Accommodation and a large variation of activities are available with in the grounds. Specially selected breaks are also available for couples to stay in the romantic Castle

A castle full of history and character awaits you, ancient family portraits adorn the walls and the many antiques include the unique 17th century family charter chest. The French Room is a double bedroom with four-poster bed and private bathroom, the North Room being a large twin/triple bedroom with private adjacent bathroom. Breakfast is served in the 18th century dining room cum library and guests can use the Regency drawing room, which has a Steinway grand piano. There is central heating throughout, fine natural spring water, which comes from the hills above the castle, the freshest of air and the sounds and scents of nature always providing the recipe for the perfect night's sleep. Staying at Craighall is a step back in time, as comfortable as the modern age can make it, but nothing like the impersonal atmosphere of a five star hotel.

The Apartment, Craighall Castle

The self-contained Apartment provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to 10, in two double bedrooms, (one with four poster bed), two twins and two singles and three bathrooms. The sitting room and dining room both have log fires and the south facing kitchen is well equipped. There is central heating throughout and towels and linen included.

The surrounding estate, which has recently been awarded special European conservation status, is famous for its dramatic gorge, river and three hundred acres of native woodlands, abounding with wild life and wonderful walks. This tranquil haven is the perfect place for family holidays, the three acres of lawn providing plenty of space for cricket, football, croquet and biking. There is also a games room with pool table and table tennis. Activities in the local area include golf, horse riding and fishing. This is a wonderful area for golf, with many famous courses within a hour's drive including St. Andrews and Carnoustie, and some fine courses locally, such as Rosemount, Alyth and Glen Isla. Craighall Castle is a superb location from which to tour all parts of the country, with good shopping facilities and excellent restaurants near by.
