Have you ever wondered about the origin or the history of the name Rattray?

Did you know:

That the name is amongst the most ancient in Scotland and is derived from the words Rath meaning fortified and treff meaning settlement.

· That the current clan stronghold, Craighall, dates back to the sixteenth century and is still owned by members of the Rattray clan.

· Legend has it that the clan motto "SUPER SIDERA VOTUM” was given by the Roman Emperor Constantine.

The Clan Rattray society aims to promote the clan, its history and its places of interest.

By joining you will, as well as having the satisfaction of contributing to the clan, benefit from the following:

· An annual newsletter.

· Regular clan gatherings.

· A genealogical database with over 30,000 names has been set up and is available for members to aid the tracing of their ancestors.

· The opportunity to meet many others with an interest in the Rattray clan.

· A clan website

The membership fee of £7 has been kept to a minimum to ensure that cost is not a barrier. You can make a contribution to the clan by passing a copy of this letter and membership form to others who might be interested. Perhaps you are aware of other Rattrays in your area.

Full membership is restricted to all that can trace their ancestry to the name Rattray, either through male or female line. This is to ensure that the society is always run for the benefit of the Rattrays. However, anyone is welcome to join as an associate member. Associate members do not have the right to vote at society meetings.
